The Hatchery

Ballycastle Angling Club is responsible for the operation of the Ballycastle Salmon and Sea trout hatchery for the purposes of re stocking.

In conjunction with DCAL , AFBI  and N atural Living Assets, the club aims to

 produce a  stock enhancenment plan that will maximise the adult run

of salmon and sea trout . Over the last few years AFBI,sponsored by

 DCAL have worked to assess the juvenile and habitat characteristics.

Up to 30 sites have been identified for semi quantitative analysis

supported by furhter fully quntitiative asessments supported by NIEA as

part of their River Basin Management Plans work.  It is strongly hoped ,

and recommended that the funding streams for this work can be

continued. The club and its members have a vital role to play by

ensuring that any information regarding the exploitation of

fish stocks is recorded and feedback to a responsible officer of the club.
